SCARCE BRONZE LYLE LIFE SAVING CANNON BY C.C. GALBRAITH & SON WITH PROJECTILES.
Circa 1940 production by C.C. Galbraith & Son of New York City, who produced approximately 1,400 of these line throwing cannons around World War II. The approximately 31 - 1/2" cast bronze tube measures about 2 - 1/2" at the muzzle. "652 C C GALBRAITH & SON INC NEW YORK" and "USI. HMS." is stamped around the muzzle. The elevation adjustable base is also cast "C.C. GALBRAITH & SON INC / NEW YORK N.Y. / U.S.A." in relief. On this example the touchhole has been upgraded with an ingenious firing mechanism which utilizes .32 blanks. The gun is accompanied by 2 weighted projectiles and a hardwood rammer. CONDITION: Fine. Gun displays a pleasant mellowing golden patina with expected scattered marks including a few nicks around the muzzle. A very attractive and impressive ensemble.
