High Eagle helmet with 64 combs and hand painted, gold leaf front with a hose carriage on the front. The silver shield on the brim reads "Presented to Geo. C. Townsend by the members of Empire Hose No. 1, Flushing NY January 1st, 1897". Fancy, blue stitched helmet liner is intact. Made by Cairns and Brothers, New York. Note: The helmet presented to the Chief of Department on the same day was sold for $12,000 several years ago; it did have some extras that aren't on this helmet. From the Ray Bentley Collection.

Condition: (Very Good - Excellent).
