This life-sized bust of famous Italian race driver Tazio Nuvolari (1892 - 1953), known as "The Flying Mantuan," is signed by artist Ernest Charles Diosi, famous for his sculpted car and motorcycle racer figures. In 1932, Nuvolari won the European Championship, as well as many of the Grand Prix and many international races that followed. Ferdinand Porsche gave him perhaps his best testimonial when he referred to The Flying Mantuan as "the greatest driver of the past, the present and the future." CONDITION: The bust shows some areas of chipping to the chalk bust, with some areas of paint loss. It is clearly signed for Diosi and has a great aged patina. PROVENANCE: From the lifelong collection of Bill Howard.
