An unusual piece. Made of bronze (does not attractive a magnet) and measures 11" long, with a flared trumpet muzzle, a raised reinforcing ring behind the touchole, which is inset in a square cut. Back of piece is shaped like a crescent, like the rearmost part of a shaolin spade, with a 2" relieved area with a socket, probably for mounting to a pole; possibly an unusual form of an early handgonne. CONDITION: Brass has a deep uncleaned appearance throughout, with some darkening on fore section and at cresent; scattered areas of more golden hue, particularly at high edges. Muzzle with some verdigris. Air flows easily through touchole.

Item Dimensions: 11" X 7"
SMALL HAND CANNON, PROBABLY OF ASIATIC ORIGIN.
