This horn measures about 13-1/2" in length and has a cone-shaped spout section. The wooden plug is convex and features an iron staple in the center surrounded by a brass tack on each side. There is also a series of brass tacks retaining the plug. The body is engraved with a patriotic eagle with wings spread and both talons are clutching arrows. There are also a number of different birds including a peacock, a rooster, and what appears to be geese and ducks; there are also 9 fish, a frog, a cat, and a depiction of a man fishing on a boat, a squirrel in a tree, a snake, a buck, a flying dragon, and a flintlock rifle. There is also a cartouche with the initials "SRM" and the date "1828". There are also the initials "AS" towards the spout. CONDITION: Retains a dry, dark honey surface with some minor insect bites and scattered marks from use. Some natural flaking to spout and minor scuffing to plug. A very attractive and interesting folkart horn with well done depictions of fish and wildlife. DMG
