15 - 1/4'' x 21 - 1/2'' framed; 19'' x 15 - 1/4'' sight. Oil on canvas of New York snow scene. Active scene of Manhattan in the snow, with the focal point being the New York Public Library, with its well-known lion statues. Depiction includes seven American Flags, pedestrians with umbrellas, a bus and taxicabs. Snow is blowing at an angle, and awnings are visibly out. SLR Guy Wiggins (American, 1883-1962). Label on verso says 218 E. Ontario St., Chicago, with a phone and fax number. An old label on the frame says Lexington Art Gallery, 968 Lexington Avenue, New York 21, N.Y. Guy Carleton Wiggins was born in Lyme, Conn., and was educated there at his father's (John Carleton Wiggins) art school. Before he settled on a career as a painter, the younger Wiggins worked with the Foreign Service. He would paint local scenes wherever he was posted. After taking an early retirement from the job, Wiggins entered the Art Students League in New York, followed by a course of study in the artists colony of Old Lyme. Wiggins is best known for his Impressionistic paintings of New York in the snow, as well as for his renderings of Connecticut landscapes.
