Standard configuration Model 1881 Dress helmet marked inside around the spike fixture "J.H. MCKENNEY & CO. / 141 GRAND ST. N.Y.". The firm experienced financial ruin in the late 1880s. This example is constructed of cork covered with blue fabric and displays a gold plume and cord normally meant for cavalry. The front features a Federal Army of the United States front plate with "A" at center. The sides of the helmet have the correct crossed saber cavalry bales. There is some edge wear along the visors revealing the cork construction. The helmet retains its shape with no major dents or cracks. There are a few holes in the blue cloth exposing the cork. Leather sweatband is present and intact, however it is loose and only attached at the rear. Stamped "32" inside crown. CONDITION: Good.
