US WWII CAMILLUS MARINE CORPS RAIDER STILETTO.

Rare United States Marine Corps Raider Stiletto complete with its Type 3 leather scabbard. This example was produced by Camillus Cutlery Company of Camillus, New York. Camillus produced Raider Stilettos in 1942 and a total of 14,370 knives were manufactured. These stilettos were heavily influenced and designed similarly to the British Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knives which the British issued to their commando units. There were two versions of these Stilettos that were issued, the US Marine Corps version with "USMC" monogram etched into a scroll on the blade, and the unmarked Canadian version which featured a darkened blade etchings. This example features the correct monogram etched USMC scroll and is faintly etched "Camillus / Cutlery / Co. / Camillus / N.Y." just above the oval crossguard. The blade remains bright and exhibits a light patina with scattered scratches and blemishes. The monogram etched USMC scroll remains nearly untouched. The stiletto features a cast zinc handle with coarse knurling which extends from the smooth pommel all the way to the guard. The handle does not exhibit any cracks in its fragile zinc alloy construction. Green paint remains almost completely intact with wear and loss at the pommel and guard. The stiletto is accompanied by its type 3 scabbard that features a metal reinforcing plate on each side. The scabbard exhibits scattered blemishes including scratches and light creasing. The stitching and rivets remain tight. CONDITION: Very good.
