US WWII UNMARKED SPRINGFIELD RANDALL MODEL 1 ALL PURPOSE FIGHTING KNIFE.
Between 1942-1945, Randall Made Knives produced 4,000 of these Model 1 Fighters with approximately 1000-1200 subcontracted out to Northampton Cutlery Company in Springfield, Massachusetts to meet the growing demand among US troops. This example is one of the knives produced by Northampton Cutlery Company and features an unmarked carbon steel blade. The blade exhibits scattered blemishes and evidence of an older polishing and sharpening. Brass guard with downturned quillons exhibits a pleasing patina. Distinct, thick red, white, and blue stacked leather washer handle with aluminum pommel exhibits handling wear. Although unmarked, the characteristics of the grind, the spacers, and the pommel all indicate this is a Springfield fighter. The knife is complete with its brown leather rough back scabbard that was most likely made by Southern Saddlery Co. Gilded snaps with two rivets. A white "LILY WHITE WASHITA OILSTONE" hone is contained in the pouch. The hone is broken in two pieces. The scabbard exhibits scattered blemishes and wear but remains supple with tight stitching. Male snap has come loose from the strap and is stuck in the female snap. CONDITION: Good.
