Fine example of a World War I United States Army Air Service (USAAS) pilot’s uniform jacket with nice insignia. The jacket features a great hand stitched First Army Air Service SSI with layered roundel on the left shoulder. Lower left sleeve exhibits 2 wool backed gold bullion overseas chevrons. A pair of black wool backed bullion wings compliments the left breast above the pocket. Nice matched set of USAAS pinback insignia on the collar with bullion Lieutenant bars sewn to each epaulette. The jacket is possibly of French construction as it is complete with Paris marked General Eagle buttons. One button is mismatched. Nice chocolate liner with striped sleeve lining. The jacket is devoid of a maker label and is otherwise unmarked except for the initials “WJG” on the lower right of the liner. CONDITION: The jacket features fraying and staining around the pockets with a few scattered stains and moth nips. Insignia is unmolested. Nice liner with minor stains, frayed areas, and light repairs.
