USMC M1912 enlisted man's khaki service blouse with Gunnery Sergeant chevron and beautiful glass beaded 2nd Division Indianhead patch. The tunic exhibits a wonderfully made 2nd Division patch which is hand sewn to the tunic. The patch is either theatre or Native American made based off of the construction. It is constructed with a diamond shaped khaki backing in the form and glass beads that form the 2nd Marine Division star and Indianhead. The beads are European made and appear to be floor sweeps with varying shapes and sizes. Floor sweep beads were swept up and later sold to Native Americans, who used the beads for designs on their clothing. The diamond shape and blue star indicate that this Marine was attached to the 3rd Battalion of the 6th Marine Regiment. There is some bead loss, which reveals the original inked design of the star underneath the beads. Despite the bead loss, the patch is wonderfully constructed and highlights the tunic. Below the 2nd Division patch, is a machine sewn Gunnery Sergeant chevron, which is mirrored on the opposite arm. The chevrons exhibit wool loss on the stripes, but are nonetheless in good condition. The tunic is complete with all of its original USMC buttons. The interior is stamped with the name "V.T. Linthacum" and is stamped as a size "4M". The tunic exhibits light staining throughout, but all of the attention is drawn to the beaded patch. This is a nice, named tunic with a desirable and seldom encountered patch. CONDITION: Good. JLD
