RARE NEW HAVEN ARMS NO 2 NAVY SIZE VOLCANIC PISTOL. VOLCANIC NO. 2 NAVY 2464 41 Cal. 41. Scarce Navy size Volcanic with rare 6" oct bbl that has integral magazine, brass pin front sight and 2-line New Haven address. Mounted with smooth 2-pc rosewood grips that are matching numbered to this pistol. Buttstrap has an after market brass stud and lanyard ring. SN was observed on right side of buttstrap, under the grip, on right side of lever and inside each grip. Bbl and loading sleeve have assembly number "300". The small tab at the end of the loading sleeve is broken from the spring loaded pin but is still present. Only about 300 of these rare pistols were produced 1857-1860. The Volcanic was the forerunner of the Civil War era Model 1860 Henry rifle which evolved into the venerable Winchester Model 1866 which established the Winchester dynasty. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good, all visible numbers matching. Bbl retain 60-70% dull orig blue, brighter on the ribs. Frame and sideplates show sharp edges and a dark mustard patina. Lever and hammer are a brown patina. Left grip has a chipped toe, otherwise grips are sound showing moderate edge wear and retain most of their orig varnish. Mechanics are fine. Strong bright bore with scattered pitting. 49973-234 JR31 (5,500-7,500)
