Octagonal to round barrel with wedding ring girdle, decorated with inlaid brass, silver, and incise carving, in floral shapes. Unsigned brass lock with faceted unbridled pan, swan neck cock with simple engraving and eyelet tightening topscrew. Stock has extensive brass wire inlay in geometric patterns and accenting features such as checkering, and has several tacks throughout, accenting the wire. Trumpet head ramrod retained by a single ferrule feeding into a reinforced mouth. Buttplate looks to be a somewhat better quality than balance of piece, possibly a trade piece. The overall construction of this piece is suggestive of a Middle Eastern origin, albeit of a better quality than the often seen bazaar pieces. CONDITION: Overall good. Metal has a smooth chocolate patina throughout, with tarnishing to silver, easily cleaned by the new owner if they desire. Brass lock has a deep golden color, with some evidence of casting to trigger guard and pan. Stock has numerous bumps, bruises, and splits which appear stable. Wire is lifting in some areas, with most significant loss perimeter of butt. Mechanically fine, bore is very good. A good example.
