Brass barrel in 4 stages, octagonal at the breech, separated by a wedding ring, and then 2 tapering sections separated by a thinner ring, before flaring, with a raised ridge at the start of the flare. "LONDON" signed on top of octagonal flat, and dressed with laurels behind the ring and slashes at the rear, with offset "(Crown) / CP" proof. Period spring mounted bayonet added via lead platform and catch at muzzle, while tang was cut to add the sliding catch at rear. Ramrod with slightly bulged head and jag at tail probably original, and is secured by a brass ferrule (replaced) with raised edges before feeding into a reinforced mouth with spearpoint finial. Rebushed touch hole from reconversion to flintlock. Flint lock with integrally fenced waterproof pan, bridled pan cover, roller bearing frizzen. English push-on safety, engraved with rays about the rear bolt and rear step, with stiff leaf engraving and a spray of florals on top of step. Cock a replacement and does not have slot for push on safety and is slightly loose. Brass trigger guard with pineapple finial, stiff leaf borders, central florals, and a second finial rear. Wraparound point pattern checkering at wrist. Brass buttplate with well done stand of arms at heel and floral final. CONDITION: Brass with a lovely golden patina throughout, verdigris forming only in the deepest corners. Some heat distortion from application of bayonet. Bayonet and ramrod with areas of bright metal and splotches of mossing, while lock is essentially a smooth chocolate patina with flashes of gunmetal grey. Stock is very good with an extra layer of varnish, some handling marks throughout, and some minor chipping, mostly around right side of rear barrel key, and a small crack near the toe. Mechanically fine, bore is very good (application of bayonet visible from interior). A well presenting example. Formerly part of the Allan Klein collection.
