1853 vintage Colt 3rd Model Dragoon single action percussion revolver, serial number 13688. 7 - 1/2" round barrel in .44 caliber with German silver blade front sight and hammer notch rear. 1-piece plain walnut grips. Matching serial numbers observed on rammer, barrel, cylinder arbor, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt. Frame serial number has a light "6" marking underneath serial number near "3" in 13688 where frame was renumbered to match. Serial numbers are stamped in small font consistent with early 1st model Dragoons, the font was switched to a larger one on the later 1st models and continued throughout the production of the Colt Dragoon revolvers. CONDITION: Good, with all of the factory finishes chemically turned a homogenous gray patina with scattered handling marks. Cylinder scene has worn away with only cylinder serial number visible. Grips are very good as repaired with light handling marks throughout. Repair is visible on both grip panels where panels were assembled from separate wood pieces. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with moderate abrasion and crisp rifling. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. TON
