(A) COLT CAVALRY MODEL SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER
Shipped on November 18th, 1885. Features a single line gothic barrel address and DFC sub inspector proof. The frame has a three line patent date, US property marks, and DFC sub inspector marks. The grips have the cartouche of Capt. Frank Heath. DFC also appears on the butt of the left grip panel. The hammer is coarsely checkered with a border and termination line. Colt contracted with the Government for 2,000 revolvers during the period of production of August 1884 through January 1885. The ordnance inspector was Capt. Frank Heath and the sub inspector was David F. Clark. The contract was completed December, 14,1885. This example has the letter "G" stamped on the trigger guard and back strap. Kopec speculated that this denoted that this was for Government destined revolvers, but no documentation exists to confirm. Comes with Colt factory letter. CONDITION: The blued finish on the barrel is turning a deep plum with areas of wear on the muzzle. The leading edge of the ejector housing has finish loss. There is blue present in protected areas. Case colors are present on the hammer and protected areas of the frame. The cartouche is present, with a clear oval border, but "F H" is illegible. The bore is bright with pin pricking in a few areas and light frost in the grooves. Overall, a very nice example of an unaltered Colt Cavalry revolver.
