Rare and desired. Manufactured in 1884, the first year of production. Nickel plated finish throughout. Rare lightweight profile carbine barrel with full length magazine tube, blade front sight, ladder rear and 2-line address. Medium frame with rampant Colt and saddle ring on the left side. 2-piece checkered walnut slide handle and plain walnut stock with carbine butt plate. Right side of the stock is inlaid with a 5-pointed star. CONDITION: Fine. Carbine retains the majority of its nickel plating with blubbing and minor spots of loss throughout. Larger areas of loss to brown patina present around the saddle ring, trigger guard, and butt plate. Forend checkering remains crisp with a few impressions. Stock also has scattered impressions, abrasions, dings, and other evidence of use. Defined bore with black powder abrasion. Fine mechanics. Safety has been removed.
