(A) COLT MODEL 1861 SPECIAL CONTRACT PERCUSSION MUSKET.
Produced by Colt during the Civil War, many of these muskets were provided to state militia units. Standard bright finished, government proofed barrel with bayonet lug front sight and 3-position rear sight. Lock has 2 line Colt address at the center and "1863" date on the tail. The oiled walnut stock has 2 faint cartouches on the left flat and is secured by 3 barrel bands. CONDITION: Very Good. Metal is largely bright with areas of older cleaned oxidation. Stocks have also been lightly cleaned and reoiled with various staining and impressions remaining. Dark, abraded bore with visible rifling. Fine mechanics.
