(A) C.S. RICHMOND PERCUSSION MUSKET DATED 1863.
Fine original 1863 dated low hump Richmond rifle. Distinctive broken "P" proof on breech with "1863" date at tang. 2 leaf 1855 pattern rear sight. One piece oil finished walnut stock with correct brass forend tip. Loading rod is a Southern made 1855 style rod without swell at muzzle end. The Richmond rifle musket was built using captured tooling from the armory at Harpers Ferry in 1861. The 1855 tooling was taken south to Richmond, Virginia, and production was begun. The CS Richmond is one of the most recognized of all Confederate arsenal built long arms of the Civil War. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine for a Richmond musket with excellent wood and crisp markings. Metal remains in a fine uncleaned state. Wood is very fine with some typical period of use bruises. Mechanically excellent.
