(A) DFC INSPECTED COLT CAVALRY SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH KOPEC LETTER

Produced in 1884 to fulfill a Government contract, this revolver features a one line barrel address and a three line patent date. The David Clark inspector initials appear on the frame, barrel, and cylinder. The ordnance inspector was Frank Heath. The ejector is the early bullseye type. According to the Kopec letter, this revolver escaped the Ordnance recall of 1893 that altered many revolvers to Artillery configuration, by being issued to one of several possible state militias including New Jersey, South Carolina, or New York. CONDITION: The revolver is correct in every respect, confirmed by Kopec's letter. The surfaces are a pleasing natural grey patina. Some minor pitting appears in the vicinity of the patent dates and US markings, partially obscuring them. There are traces of case colors on the forward, right side of the frame. All hammer notches are intact. The bore has strong rifling with areas of light corrosion in the grooves, consistent with black powder use. Mechanically fine.
