According to the Colt Factory Archive letter. This gun left the factory as a .44/40 with a 4 - 3/4" barrel, nickel plate, and the grips unlisted. It was shipped to Kennedy Brothers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 11th, 1886, in a shipment of two guns. It has a two line address on top of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." It has a wonderful etched panel on the left side of the barrel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" and .44 on the bottom of the barrel. Three line patent dates on the left lower part of the frame. ".44 C.F" on the left front of the trigger bow. Matching serial numbers observed on the frame, trigger guard, and the backstrap. Single action front sight with a V notch rear sight. One piece varnished wood grip. CONDITION: This gun retains the vast majority of the original factory-applied nickel finish. There is some handling and holster wear. The majority of the finish loss is on the cylinder. The nitre blue small parts have traces of the original finish. The bore is frosted but still shows good lands and grooves. The action has all four clicks and it locks up tight. Grip has the majority of the original varnish and show very little use.
