Manufactured from 1857 through 1860. The New Haven Arms Company produced less than 1,000 lever action carbines in total. This example with its 16-1/2" octagon barrel with two line barrel address. Nickel silver blade front sight. Brass receiver with American straight grain walnut that is marked "3062" on stock and buttplate . Case colored hammer and lever. Trigger has light patina. Numbers "31" appear twice on bottom of receiver. possibly a rack number. The volcanic carbines and pistols where the true introduction into the repeating firearm era. Considered to be the parent of the Henry rifle and then on to the iconic Winchester lever action of the American Western fame Barrel retains 95-97% strong original blue along with the integrated magazine tube. Brass frame all edges are sharp. Sideplates look as thought they have not been removed on either side. Rear sight retains 90-95% of its bright nitre blue. Hammer is dark patina with case colors evident in protected areas. Lever is dark patina with some blue evident in protected areas. All screw heads are marked with serial No. 3062. Stock has light surface scratches on left with a few dings, also with a few dings on right side and light surface scratches. Fit to buttplate and receiver is excellent with no cracks or slivers of wood missing. All screw heads look fine. Bright and shiny bore with deep rifling. Cycles properly and mechanics are fine. Truly one of the finest Volcanic carbines to be offered in recent past and would be very difficult to improve upon. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
