This highly ornate Jaeger carbine was made by renowned German gunsmith Johann Georg Eisenmenger (1717–1757) of Zweibrücken. The rifle features exquisite rococo designs throughout. The fire blued two stage barrel is deeply rifled and has an ornately chased transition between sections and a swamped muzzle. The front half moon sight is silver and the blued steel rear sight has a long chased foliate finial on the front and back. The convex lock is engraved "EISENMENGER" in a banner in the center and "A. ZWEIBRUCK." below the frizzen spring. Tail features a sliding half-cock safety. Single trigger offset to left. The steel furniture is profusely chased and engraved with rococo scrolls, shell designs, and foliate scrolls. Sling swivel in front of trigger guard and an original iron saddlebar mounted on left side. Figured walnut stock features a relief carved sliding wood patchbox and ornate relief foliate and floral motifs throughout. Horn nosecap. Wood ramrod. CONDITION: Excellent, showing little to no use. Barrel retains perhaps 85-95% original fire blued finish. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, functions well and and retains its original polish. Mounts retain their original polish and show no wear. Stock crisp and only shows a couple light storage marks, original finish. A fantastic beautiful and ornate mounted rifle Jaeger likely for use by a cavalry officer.
