(A) FINE PAIR OF DOCUMENTED SILVER MOUNTED BRITISH OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY RICHARD WILSON.

These 1754 pistols were once in in the Gordon Barlow Collection. They are the type carried during the Revolutionary War by many American and British officers including Stephen Decatur, Mad Anthony Wayne, Captain Patrick "Paddy Carr". This pair show the wear and condition commensurate with use here during the war. They feature brass barrels marked "LONDON" on tops and have private London proofs on left side of breeches along with "RW" for maker Richard Wilson. The convex lock plates have lightly engraved cocks and are marked "WILSON" in the centers. The silver mounted furniture includes grotesque mask full stirrup pommels and military sideplates with a castle tower and stands of arms on each side. Military wrist escutcheons with helmet and cannon. Walnut stocks carved with relief shells behind barrel tangs. Original horn-tipped wooden ramrods. CONDITION: Untouched and as found. Barrels retain a dark mustard patina and show wear to markings, touchhole areas with a heavy green patina from powder. Locks retain an grey patina, are in their original flintlock configurations and function well. Silver mounts show traces of gilt finish and show wear to high edges. Stocks show scattered marks from use. A very fine pair of military officer's pistols.
