One of the approximately 1800 total Spencer Sporting rifles produced and chambered for the .56-46 Spencer rimfire cartridge. Produced in the immediate post-Civil War era with most going west during the United States period of Westward Expansion. 26" round barrel with sporting blade front sight. Modified Spencer staff sight at rear dovetail and factory installed mid-range tang sight. Receiver serial number is applied slightly offset to facilitate tang sight. Barrel has matching serial number 629 on underside. Rifle is mounted with oil finished American walnut stocks with diminutive pewter forend tip. Traditional 10 round magazine at crescent type steel butt. CONDITON: Very good with shadows of case color visible on receiver, lock and lever with balance tined to patina. Bore is good with well defined rifling with darkness in grooves. Stocks are very good with a small chip at rear of forearm and some period of use impressions and bruises. Mechanically fine
