Manufactured 1896. Second year production flat side in .38-72 with standard 26" barrel, blue finish, walnut stock with rifle butt plate, forend with ebony inset, original semi-buckhorn rear sight, and German silver tipped front sight. Has proper two line factory legend on top of barrel and marked "38-72 WCF". CONDITION: Fine. The frame on this early gun still retains at least 60-70% of the original high polish factory blue finish, as does the sides of the magazine, with the balance drifting a soft metal tone. The barrel is a smooth soft patina with some blue undertones. The stocks are proud to metal with normal light abrasions and impressions save for a couple of dents on left side of forearm. Bore is well defined with some frosting and very minor abrasion. This is a very sharp, well cared for, example of a scarce early flat side. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
