This is an interesting pistol with a high quality French barrel, a German lock, and a stock of unusual birdshead form. Round barrel with a partially flattened sighting plane, decorated with relief carved floral scroll and shell motifs with gilt highlights, signed "Chasteau A Paris" at the plane, and fit with blade front sight. Convex lock signed "BROCKMANN" under the pan and "A Rostock" under frizzen. Appropriately sized ramrod with horn tip retained by a single iron ferrule with turned edges and feeding into a reinforced mouth. Plain iron furniture with a faintly floral finial. Stock with floral carving at the tang, with raised panels around the tang, sideplate, and ramrod channel, and a horn nosecap. CONDITION: Barrel with flashes of the original bluing, with the vast majority of the barrel a mixture of dove grey and brown toning. Other furniture has been cleaned in the European fashion over some darkness and brown toning. Stock with some handling marks and impressions throughout, one small split under horn forearm cap running to approximately the first ramrod ferrule. Cock a replacement as it does not correctly engage the sliding safety. Mechanically fine, bore is very good, clean and smooth with some minor oxidation.
