(A) HIGH CONDITION WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 HIGH WALL .32-40 FALLING BLOCK RIFLE WITH SCOPE
Dates to 1894. Early period 30" 3/4" tube high polished blue scope with rear mount adjustment and standard crosshair reticle. The two original barrel sight slots have fillers and two slots were milled to fit scope. Rifle features a number 4 heavy octagonal barrel with the case colored frame, lever, and buttplate. The walnut stock has an exposed sling eye hole and has a benchrest bottom plate attached. The forearm has the ebony inset. Crisp Winchester barrel legends. Line on upper tang where a sight once was. There are no model year tang legends and they appear to have never been applied. It is known that many Model 1885 rifles intended for Browning Brothers in Utah were made without the Winchester markings and this had to have been made for Browning. CONDITION: Excellent. Frame retains at least 90% of its bright case color along with strong color on lever and even some remaining on the butt plate. The barrel retains nearly all its blue finish with nominal handling and edge wear. Mechanically sound with a strong bore. Even the scope retains most of its brilliant blue finish.
