Browned Damascus barrels with slightly tapered solid rib with bead front sight, engraved over breech "ROENNE IN CHARLOTTENBURG". Horn tipped ramrod retained by two ferrules with reinforced mouth. Second ferrule with sling stud. Horn handled rotary underlever pulls barrels away from face and cocks strikers (not currently working), resting in a detented central escutcheon engraved with florals on a stipple ground. Round body action engraved en suite, as is trigger guard. Small wing safety in front of trigger guard. Trigger guard is equipped with a Horn extension is typical Germanic flowing style. Wrist checkered in point pattern. Buttplate with long top strap engraved en suite with balance of gun. Accompanied by the 2008 Franz Jaeger Award for Excellence in Firearms Design and Engineering from the German Gun Collector Association, and a copy of the magazine with an article that mentions when this gun won the award at the 2008 Vintage Cup. The gun was awarded for being one of the earliest breechloading firearms during the transition away from percussion firearms in favor of the breech loading system. CONDITION: Good cosmetics with poor mechanics. Barrels have oxidation towards end of barrels and smaller patches throughout. Balance of metal is an attractive chocolate patina with crisp engraving. Stocks are very good, somewhat dry, with some normal marks throughout from handling and storage. Action does not correctly reset the strikers, which stick into the barrels. Barrels are good with mostly smooth tubes throughout, with oxidation towards muzzle. A really nicely presenting gun that someone could restore to glory. EW
