Manufactured in 1863. This beautiful revolver, serial number 14501E, retains nearly 100% of its factory silver plating on barrel, frame, and loading lever, somewhat darkened in protected areas. Cylinder retains considerable original gliding with lifting and wear. Trigger guard retains nearly all the factory silver plating. Engraved "Capt. Ge. Washburn". Superb factory checkered ivory grips are carved on left side with a Zouave in high relief. All pin safeties are intact and gun has seen very little use. Frame screws are blued, slightly marred. Engraving is sharp and crisp throughout. Revolver is mentioned in Major Washburn obituary published in the January 17, 1903 issue of the Democratic Register of Ossining, New York, as "a magnificent gold and silver mounted revolver." Gun is cased in a magnificent brass-bound vertical lid rosewood case with shield escutcheon beautifully engraved "Capt. Geo. Washburn/133d Regt./N.Y.Vol.". Case is lined in wine red velvet with very rare Colt's patent silver plated flask retaining nearly all of its darkened silver on body spout and top. Blued Colt's patent mold retains nearly all the original finish. Other accessories include screwdriver, oil bottle, two partial paper packet cartridges, and Hall's cap tin. Case is in excellent condition. It is extremely rare to find an inscribed gun in an inscribed case, which guaranties that the gun came in the case. Together with the Navy is a presentation 1850 foot officer's sword with initials "G.W." and further inscribed "Presented to Lieut. Geo. Washburn/by his friends/of the first Platoon of the/27th Police Precinct/New York. Sept 10th 1862." Sword is well worn and shows much use and carry. Scabbard is split and repaired with black electrical tape. Grip is fine. All together, this is fabulous ensemble for the Colt or Civil War collector.
