Lot #2092:
(A) INCISE CARVED BEDFORD COUNTY KENTUCKY RIFLE WITH PERCUSSION BOXLOCK ACTION.
Attributed to Mills of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Octagon barrel brass front sight with silver blade and an engraved notched iron rear sight. Tang of lock inscribed "ALS", likely for an owner or lock maker. Internal boxlock action with an engraved brass sideplate on each side. Double set triggers. Elaborate Mills attributed pierced and engraved large four-piece patchbox. Finely engraved eagle on silver oval inlaid above cheekpiece. Profusely incise-carved throughout with scrollwork and ornate borders. CONDITION: Barrel retains a pleasing even brown patina, as does lock. Lock functions properly but does not have a half-cock position. Brass retains a pleasing light mustard patina. Stock retains generous traces of original finish with some wear and scattered marks from use. A very fine and rare Kentucky rifle. PROVENANCE: Ex. Castlerock Museum.
