(A) KENTUCKY MARKED TRIPLETT & SCOTT REPEATING CARBINE.

These were made circa 1864-65 in Meriden CT. There was a 22" and a 30", both referred to as carbines with a total of 3000 long barrel examples. An order was placed for 5000 of this model on Jan.1, 1865 for the Kentucky Guard, intended to be used to guard Sherman's supply lines but war ended before they could be delivered. KENTUCKY is stamped on left side of loading block. The Meriden legend is also stamped on left side. The Triplett legend is stamped on upper tang. The seven rounds are loaded at frame and forced backwards into the stock. Features round barrel, single band dovetailed front sight, folding ladder military style rear sight at barrel breech, case color frame, walnut stock with metal butt plate and swivels mounted at toe and heel along with a matching forearm. CONDITION: Very good. The wrist is almost always cracked on these models when found and this is no exception but it is nicely repaired with no missing pieces. The barrel and loading block are a smooth homogenous blue patina blend with scattered handling marks. The frame retains flashes of case color. Stocks are excellent with note to repairs. Mechanically sound with a well defined and clean bore showing nominal residue. Scarce gun and far better than most.
