According to research, the number of Civil War used Model 1854s is only surpassed by Colt, Remington, and Starr. The US government purchased 11,333 of these handguns and many thousands more were brought into the Confederacy by blockade runners This serial number falls into the known range for US purchased revolvers. This is a scarce short barrel with added spring on rod, triangle bead front sight, blue finish, two piece walnut grips, and lanyard ring. Left side of frame has the stamp "Brevet SGVD a Paris". The right side has the open pistol over LF stamp. Trigger guard has the sash hook. Comes with research notes and gun history. CONDITION. Fine. There remains some remnants of bright blue but majority of metal is a soft homogenous blue patina mix with crisp edges, action and well defined bore with some minor abrasion.
