Lot consists of (A) .44 caliber percussion derringer with a 2 - 3/4" barrel; overall length is 6". Notch rear sight with silver blade front sight. 2 silver inlaid lines with "DERINGER / PHILADELA'' centered between and same mark on rear of lock plate. All panels, hammer, lock, and trigger guard show typical scroll engraving. Accent escutcheons are of German silver with a teardrop engraved butt plate and silver tip. Vacant shield shaped escutcheon on top of tang aft of the barrel. CONDITION: Barrel has a dark pitted brown finish with hammer cleaned in recent times. Wood shows heavy wear and periods dings. Lock plate is mottled grey and brown. Replacement hammer and tang screws. Mechanically sticky but OK once cocked. (B) 18th century flintlock fire starter. CONDITION: Spring is very stiff but works. Retains original candle holder. BRM.
