Lot consists of: (A) Late 18th century Light Dragoon / Sea Service British martial flintlock pistol. Lock engraved "Rawle" (Rawle & Wilson), with crown over GR. All bronze furniture. 9" barrel with English proof marks, elongated 2-screw side plate typical for sea service pistols, visible decommissioning marks (double crows foot/broad arrows) aft of sideplate with "W" inspectors mark. Period original metal tipped ramrod. (B) French M1763/66 Revolutionary war period .69 cal flintlock pistol. Pistol shows period wear, but original finish remains decent in most places with areas thinning to brown on the high wear areas. 8 - 1/2” barrel is flush and tight to the wood. Stock is cracked at the wrist from the left to right edge of the trigger guard with a period iron nail repair. Wood shows typical uses dings and wear. Side plate reads in script lettering "Manufacture de Charleville". "D" under star stamp just aft of the frizzen pan. No ramrod; barrel band has been altered. This was a popular model pistol in the colonies, and many were imported and used in the War of Independence. See Neumann’s "The History of Weapons of the American Revolution", pg. 182 (P.32). CONDITION: Heavy period use overall with polished brass. M1763 has broken or stuck trigger sear but hammer will hold strong full cock. Sea Service pistol mechanically functions but mechanics need oiled. Uncleaned furniture overall with no cracks or splits to the wood. BRM.
