This truly spectacular panel scene Colt Lightning has the very desirable Sheriff's Model configuration, the barrel is beautifully engraved, retaining nearly all of its original factory high polish blue finish with the most perfect "COLT DA 38" panel we have seen. Frame retains nearly all of its original case colors. Trigger guard retains nearly all its original bright high polish blue with slight browning around the strain screw. Backstrap retains most of its original finish with some slight thinning. The engraved bighorn sheep in the panel at top of grip strap is spectacular, beautifully detailed and exquisitely rendered. Hammer has all of its high polish nitre blue on saddle. Sides of hammer have their original factory polish. Base pin has perfect checkering and most of its original finish. Trigger retains nearly all of its original bright factory nitre blue. Oversized special order deluxe checkered walnut grips have much original varnish with only slight wear at high points. Revolver has what appears to be its original lanyard ring. Bore is perfect. Cylinder shows test firing only. This gun has been featured on the cover of the Las Vegas Arms Show program for years and is accompanied by not only a factory letter but a letter from Herbert G. Houze detailing provenance of this revolver, once owned by Senator Peter McLaren of Perth, Ontario. This Lightning has been in almost every famous Colt collection including that of Lightning expert Dr. Richard C. Marohn. Impossible to improve upon. CORRECTION: Photo added. Barrel length is 3-1/2".
