Gun (A) is a Remington New York State rolling block rifle. Approximately 15,000 of these rifles were produced in 1872 for the National Guard. They were finished in blue with casehardened action, iron mountings, sling swivel on front band, walnut stocks, military style rear sight, Martially stamped. Numerous military inspector stamps on barrel and frame. Three line address on tang. CONDITION: All metal is basically a mix of gun metal grey and brown patina. Missing ramrod. Frame shows signs of having been cleaned. Stocks are very good with full length forearm. Numerous dings, slight hairline cracks on right side of wrist and a visible but not readable cartouche on right wrist. Left side of stock at wrist has inspector stamp "RPB" in rectangle for Robert P. Beals, who inspected the Remington Model 1871 New York State Militia rifle. There is another cartouche on left side of stock that reads "HBH" for Henry B. Hart. Fine action. Bore exhibits strong and sharp lands, grooves are frosted with some powder residue. Gun (B) is an 1878 dated Springfield Trapdoor rifle. Standard trapdoor two band rifle with 1884 rear sight. CONDITION: All metal is a rich, soft blue-brown patina. Block colors have darkened and stamped "US MODEL 1878". Standard U.S. Springfield sideplate. Left side of stock has a strong "SWP 1886" cartouche for Samuel W. Porter. Full length stock has typical dings and an extra coat of finish has been added. Fine action. Bore exhibits strong lands and shiny grooves with some powder residue. Comes with an original bayonet, metal scabbard, leather frog and brass hanger.
