(A) MARTIALLY INSPECTED SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CARBINE CONVERSION
These conversions were widely used in the early post Civil War Indian excursions. Converted and refurbished, this example has the tell tale DFC cartouche ribbon on left side of walnut stock for David Clark. The barrel breech has the New Model 1863 legend. Pinned blade on post front sight, Lawrence stamped rear ladder sight, saddle ring and bar, case colored patch box, and metal butt plate, Sharps legend on case color side plate along and on left side of frame. The left side of wrist has an "MNM" cartouche stamp for Moses N. Murch along with "JWK" for John W. Keene, along with sundry single letter sub inspector stamps. Three groove rifling. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel finish is a blending smooth blue patina blend. Frame colors have faded patina with exception to sideplate which retains nearly all of its bright colors and generous bright blue on screws. The patch box retains most of its colors with generous bright blue on screws. Butt plate displays flashes of color with bright blue on top screw. Stocks are excellent with nominal impressions. Mechanically sound with a bright bore. A really crisp Indian Wars Sharps carbine.
