Lot #2096:
(A) MARTIALLY INSPECTED SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 RIFLE
This is a transition Model 1863 that still sports the 1859 style patch box on right side of the stock and the pellet primer system. Standard features include three barrel bands, swivels, Lawrence stamped ladder rear sight, post front sight, walnut stock, and metal butt plate with the long forearm. The barrel has the "Sharps, Hartford" stamp along with the standard Sharps legends on frame and side plate. Left side of barrel at breech has the "MNM" stamp for Moses N. Marshall. Left side of stock has two cartouche stamps: one appears to be "AWH" for A.W. Hatch, while other is visible but illegible, but most likely David Clark. CONDITION: Very good. All of the metal is a smooth patina with sharp legends. Stocks are solid exhibiting sundry small dents and impressions. Mechanically sound with a well defined bore showing some light frosting. This is an extremely clean, untouched example that has nicely aged.
