Manufactured circa 1861-1865 for contract use with the Army and Navy with an estimated total of 20,000 made. 7 - 1/8" octagon barrel in .36 caliber with screw-in cone front sight and frame mounted rear sight. Heart shaped trigger guard with with lever below trigger to cause cylinder to advance upon each pull. 2 piece plain walnut grips. Matching serial numbers observed on right side of backstrap beneath grip, and on barrel beneath rammer assembly. Martially inspector marked on various major parts. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel, frame, and hammer turned a gray patina with moderate oxidation throughout. Cylinder and rammer assembly retain attractive amounts of bright original bluing. Grips are very good with light wear as cleaned with no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with modest abrasion and crisp rifling.
