The Merrill carbine was made by H. Merrill in Baltimore with around 4500 manufactured. This carbine was issued to the 18 Penn cavalry who fought at Gettysburg. This carbine features the walnut stock. This first model has the brass patch box, butt plate, barrel band and trigger guard. Barrel finished in the white. Also has the proper two leaf folding rear sight, saddle ring and bar. Lock the maker legend with serial number.. CONDITION: Very good. Stock has been sanded. The barrel has overall coat of light rust & toning. Lock & hammer have no finish but sharp legends. Brass was cleaned at one time. The latch appears to have been re-blued at one time. Hammer does not engage when trigger is pulled. Bore is dirty with abrasions.
