It is widely known that French long arms used during the Revolutionary War had a very short buttstock and length of pull. The length of pull ranged between 12 and 13 inches. This musket is a standard Model 1766/68 with the exception of the addition to the buttstock, lengthening the pull to 15" and slightly changing the buttstock profile. This was done by cutting and extending the existing buttstock and using the original buttplate. The buttplate tang has a long piece of iron forged to the original tang to reinforce the addition and joint. The round barrel has a deeply stamped Charleville "D" on the left side of the breech. Lockplate stamped with star over "D" and inscribed with partially visible "Charleville". Standard Model 1766/68 iron furniture. The original walnut stock has an American cherry extension at the butt. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well. Retains a brown patina and markings show wear. Iron furniture retains a brown patina. Stock shows a dry surface and two hairline cracks on left side between two rearmost barrel bands. A very interesting and nice New England-altered and American Revolutionary War used Charleville Musket. DMG
