Manufactured 1864 during the US Civil War. New Haven Arms Henry Rifle in .44 Henry Rimfire with gun metal brass frame. Octagon barrel with gulleted internal magazine under barrel. Integral blade front sight with folding staff rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Barrel mounted sling swivel stud on left side of barrel with varnished American walnut stock with sling swivel on left side and prominent "Henry Bump" just below sling swivel. Mounted with brass crescent buttplate with trap for cleaning rod. Buttplate is serial numbered to rifle internally at toe. Both butt plate screws have the last 3 digits of the serial number of the rifle. The tang screws are not numbered and this rifle has a rarely encountered scope base in the front tang screw hole. This is believed to be for a Malcolm type elevation base as has been observed on several other Civil War-era Henry rifles in the past. The butt stock has a partial serial number visible in the upper tang mortise but is very difficult to discern. CONDITION: Very good, barrel has crisp, legible legends and markings. Finish has toned to a soft patina mixed with silver. The brass receiver has a very pleasant aged mustard patina. The stock is excellent with visible Henry bump and good, full-sized wood with only light bruises and period of use impressions. The action operates properly and locks solidly. Bolt face remains in the rimfire caliber and has not been modified to centerfire as many were done in later years. A very honest and unique Civil War era Henry rifle that originated from Kentucky.
