One of 2,000 muskets converted at Frankfort Arsenal with Remington made Maynard tape conversion locks. Lock and breech are dated "1857". Barrel has been rifled. Conversion lock is marked with vertical Remington address at tail. Walnut stock with standard Charleville style iron mounts. Left flat has script "LS" Luther Sage inspection cartouche with another partially legible cartouche on the comb. The initials "WHW" are carved on the toe line. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal surfaces are bright with clean markings. Stock has some scattered impressions and nicks. Very good bore with a few areas of cleaned oxidation. Crisp mechanics.
