Manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1846, originally in classic military configuration. Period cut down and rifled to carbine configuration, possibly for cavalry use. Left stock flat opposite lock and top of wrist are marked "OHIO", signifying Ohio state ownership, and that this musket was set aside for Ohio volunteers during the Civil War. CONDITION: Good. Stock shows burnout near hammer and has been refinished. Barrel tang screw is a replacement. Mechanically fine. Bore shows visible 3 groove rifling.
