Probably William Redfern, recorded as working with his brothers Bartholomew and Matthew in Birmingham between 1799 and 1803. Made in identical configuration and likely intended as a pair for an officer or gentleman. Barrels with faux Damascus twist, a flattened sighting rib across the top of the barrel, diminutive blade front and notch rear sights, and offset crowned "V" and "P" proof marks at breech. Stepped locks with rays at step, beveled edges, bridled waterproof pans, roller bearing frizzens, and gooseneck cocks. Spurred trigger guards with pineapple finials. Walnut half stocks of bag grip form with horn forearm tips, single sidenail, and octagonal silver plaque at wrist. Top tang engraved with rays. CONDITION: Barrels largely a smooth brown patina with flashes of dove grey. Reconverted to flintlock with replacement cocks and some oxidation about the touchholes. Stocks with heavy handling marks, impressions, and dings, with a long crack along forearm on right side of (A). Some missing pieces of horn. Mechanically fine, bores smooth, with evidence of reconversion at breech.
