The London firm of Potts and Hunt was established in 1854. They built precision copies of the standard English Model 1853 percussion rifle and it is well documented that they sold large numbers of these rifles to the Confederacy during the war. It is a standard two barrel band, full length walnut stock percussion single shot .577 that features the military long range rear barrel sight, post front sight, right side bayonet lug, two swivels, and smooth butt plate. Lock exhibits the stamped maker legend and the barrel displays numerous British proof marks. Missing the metal ramrod. There is a number 55 unit or rack number on butt. CONDITION: Very good. All metal is a smooth homogenous patina and all stampings are strong. The stock is fine revealing just some minor impressions and tiny hairlines. Mechanically sound with a dark bore.
