Built in 1892. Winchester did not ship the first Model 1890 until 1891 so this is a second year gun. This is a standard first model with solid frame, case colored, with blue barrel and tube, 1st model address on top of octagon barrel, loading tube without collar, single leaf rear sight, smaller diameter 12 groove walnut forearm, and standard walnut rifle stock with rifle butt plate. The tang stamp is also type 1, dated "PAT. JUNE 26-88"; it is interesting that the the 0 in 1890 was never stamped. Bolt is bright blue. CONDITION: Fine. The frame colors have lost their brilliance but still shows about 50% with great pattern. Trigger guard and hammer show flashes of color. Butt plate is basically grey patina. Barrel and tube retain 95% blue with high edge wear and bolt legends. Stocks are excellent, proud to metal, with scattered impressions. Mechanically sound. Bore is well defined but shows frosting. A very fine and rare first model.
