Dates to 1889. It is commonly reported that Winchester made 343 of these muskets with 120 made for the Hawaiian guard. This gun does not fall into the Hawaiian guard serial range. This musket features the walnut stock with the metal carbine style butt plate, the walnut fore-end, two bands, swivels, metal rod, round barrel with military style folding ladder rear sight and blade on base front sight, and case color frame, lever and hammer. Barrel displays the one line legend along with 45-70. Features the case color frame, hammer and lever. CONDITION: Excellent. The frame retains at least 90% case color, most of which is still bold. There is still some strong color on lever. Screws are true. Barrel retains the vast majority of its blue finish with nominal handling. Barrel bands have darkened but the springs are still peacock blue. Stock is excellent with minor impressions and light dings. The buttplate has mostly turned patina. Mechanically sound with a bright bore. This is an impressive and rare musket that would be hard to improve on.
