(A) REMINGTON MODEL 1863 HARPERS FERRY PATTERN PERCUSSION RIFLE
Produced from 1862 through 1865 for the Federal Government contract. The lock is dated 1863 along with US eagle and "REMINGTON'S ILLION NY." legends. The barrel breech is dated 1863 along with the VP eagle head proof and sub inspector "GP" stamp for George Palmer. Left side of barrel breech has a "STEEL" stamp and a "BH" inspector stamp for Benjamin Hannis. The left side of full length walnut stock has two inspector cartouche stamps for the same two men. All brass furniture to include the US stamped buttplate, trigger guard, right side patchbox, two bands, and tip. Barrel has a dovetailed front sight, the small two leaf folding military rear sight, right side bayonet lug, metal ramrod, swivel attached to trigger guard and missing swivel attached to front band. CONDITION: Very good to fine. The barrel is a blue and grey thinning blend with overall blue hue showing a touch of salt and pepper near nipple. Case colors have darkened. All legends are crisp. Stock is solid showing usual moderate dings. Brass is nicely toned. Mechanically sound with a bold and sharp bore.
